Cover Reveal AND New Series Book Trailer Gods of Egypt

Posted on 21:00 by Unknown
Things have been pretty busy lately, what with Warrior of the Nile coming out from Carina Press on the 16th (next week - EEP!) and I just revealed the cover for the next book in this connected series, Dancer of the Nile. I think the heroine, Nima, looks so strong and determined! Starting with Dancer of the Nile, I'm self publishing the series. I've been a "hybrid author" for awhile, self publishing my best selling science fiction romances, so in for a penny, in for a pound, as they say!

I also commissioned a series trailer from the wonderful Theresa McClinton, of Making It Reel, for the Egyptian series. Collaborating with her was so much fun and our goal was to create a video that would invite the viewer into the faraway, ancient land along the Nile. Let me know what you think, please!

But before we get to the video, let me give you the story blurb for Warrior of the Nile, since he'll be arriving in just three days!
Egypt, 1500 BCE
Lady Tiya is bound to the service of the goddess Nephthys, who plans to sacrifice Tiya’s body to protect Egypt from an ancient terror. She embarks to meet her grim fate alone but for the hardened warrior Khenet, who is fated to die at her side. Tiya’s dreams of love and family now seem impossible, and Khenet, who is the last of his line, knows his culture will die with him. Struggling with the high cost of Nephthys’s demands, both resolve to remain loyal.
Neither expects the passion that flowers when Tiya’s quiet courage and ethereal beauty meet Khenet’s firm strength and resolve. On a boat down the Nile, their two lonely souls find in each other a reason to live. But time is short and trust elusive.
Without the willing sacrifice of Tiya and Khenet, a great evil will return to Egypt. How could the gods demand their deaths when they’ve only just begun to live?
Here's the brand new trailer:

Torso Fatigue

Posted on 23:44 by Unknown

I’m just going to come out and say it. I have a bone to pick with paranormals: I’m tired of the torso cover. And I say this as someone whose book in the margin of this blog sports a prominent naked torso.

To be fair, there are some very nice ones out there. I don’t hate a hot torso. (Chris Hemsworth taking it off in Thor? Thank you.)

And you're welcome. ;)

But there are so many these days—shared by paranormal, contemporary, historical, male/male, and erotica genres, to name a few—that they’re all starting to look alike. And there are only so many torso models out there in the royalty-free stock photo world.

I’ve noticed one model in particular whose torso now graces dozens of book covers and even more blogs. There’s even a shot of him (not mine) in the margin below, but I won’t say which. (Let me know in the comments if you think you can spot him.) He’s got a pretty versatile look, so at first glance, I didn’t even realize I was seeing the same guy repeatedly, but once I’d noticed it, I couldn’t stop seeing him. I sure hope he’s making good money off these photos, but seeing as they’re royalty free, well…I just hope he got paid something nice up front. ;)

I’ve also seen the model on my cover on a fair few. That same shot, even—he’s been a shifter, a demon, a Viking—a detail changed here and there, different hair drawn on him, but in that same noticeable pose.

In the case of these often-used models, I suppose the floating cropped torso that’s become so popular is actually preferable (and there's a very nice example of that just to the right), because then at least you can imagine the face for yourself and you may not realize you’re seeing the same guy again and again. But I’d really love it if we could break out of this naked torso mold altogether.

And yes, there are even torsos in the banner of this blog. Don’t get me wrong; I think they’re quite lovely. They’re just…everywhere. I’d love to see some visual variety. Even some tush would be refreshing. Maybe give the poor guy a hat or a tie, for pity’s sake. Something. (Or maybe it’s just that I secretly want to see “below the fold.”)

Am I alone in this torso weariness? And am I crazy to complain about ubiquitous hotness? I feel like my gay demon Belphagor after he’s been forced to spend time at a brothel full of women: He wasn’t sure how much more tit he could take.

What if...

Posted on 09:20 by Unknown
Apologies for being much later than usual but I'm recovering from surgery and I slept late!

Now to the WHAT IF. What if there had been all the social media and technology around 1939 when they were casting Gone With The Wind, or around 1952 when the same was happening with A Quiet Man? What if enough media uproar caused the studio heads to recast the stars in each of those movies? Gone With The Wind without Clark Gable or Vivian Leigh! A Quiet Man without John Wayne or Maureen O'Hara! Would they be the wonderful classics we know and love to this day? Did Margaret Mitchell or Maurice Walsh even have much say in who was cast in the lead roles for these films? Maybe, and maybe the studios knew enough about the stars to know they could act the parts they'd been contracted to play.

I'm not going to compare these wonderful stories to anything in the headlines today, but...

Oh, well! I've read books and loved them, enjoyed the movie even if I wasn't eager to see the chosen actor play the role (only because they didn't fit my idea of the character from the book.) I've enjoyed movies when I couldn't or didn't read the book. I've read great stories and have never seen the resulting movie.

Who knows how or why these things work out, I only know they do. And I know another thing: Charlie Hunnam is pretty easy on the eyes!! So, WHAT IF...

Best Reads of 2013 (So far)

Posted on 02:00 by Unknown
This year has been tough for me writing and reading wise. There were tight deadlines, family matters, and a big move. It’s been crazy around here. Since I’ve been behind schedule with my writing, I haven’t been reading as much as I normally would. That means I’ve been super picky about which books get my money and my attention. These are the books that recharged me while I was writing A Time of Dying and A Breath of Winter. These are my favorites of 2013 (so far).

1. Cold Days by Jim Butcher. I am a longtime Dresden Files fan, and this book made the slower pace of the last two worthwhile. I’m so excited for the Skin Games I could pop.

2. MacRieve by Kresley Cole. I really enjoy the Immortals After Dark series. It’s funny, sexy, and a little crazy. These books always leave me with a smile at the end, and I like that. This book in particular felt more focused on the hero and heroine, with fewer subplots to clutter the romance.

3. Second Grave on the Left by Darynda Jones. I have a weakness for UF police procedural series. This one isn’t that exactly, but it’s close enough. The heroine is likeable and funny. The hero is smoking and broken (my personal favorite combination). It’s a well-executed twist on a concept that’s seen some heavy play in UF. I really enjoyed it.

4. FROST BURNED by Patricia Briggs! I love this series so hard. It just keeps getting better. This book was awesome. If you haven’t tried the Mercy Thompson series yet, but love vamps, weres and folklore what are you waiting for?

5. Trapped by Kevin Hearne. I have mixed feelings about this series. I enjoy delving into lore and learning about Norse and Celtic mythology, but Atticus often rubs me the wrong way. He’s often compared to Harry Dresden, and I’ll admit I’m enough of a Harry fangirl that could be the root of the issue. But Harry risks his life to save people at great cost to himself, often for no reward other than survival. Atticus risks other people’s lives in the pursuit of what he wants/needs. That’s acceptable IF he shows growth throughout the series. So far that hasn’t happened to my satisfaction. In this book, I began to have a glimmer of hope because Atticus was forced to right some of his wrongs. We’ll see. I may not be one-hundred percent onboard, but I’m still reading, right? That has to say something.

Sleepy Hollow by Taryn Kincaid

Posted on 22:00 by Unknown

Welcome to SLEEPY HOLLOW
Crazy, crazy, crazy end of summer for me!
HEAT WAVE released in the second week of August…and…what do you know Amazon released SLEEPY HOLLOW, my paperback anthology of 5 1Night Stand stories for Decadent Publishing, way early, on August 26th!  And the digital, ebook version right after that!
Being the slow and pokey stick that I am…I’m not used to so many, thrills, chills and heart-palpitating excitement. The paperback is absolutely gorgeous. And the ebook edition is only $5! All my Decadent works, LIGHTNING, THUNDER, FROST, BLIZZARD, and yes, even the just-released HEAT WAVE, all in one book and all for $5.
Here are the deets:

“Sexy sizzler to make your heart zing!” ~NY Times and USA Today Bestselling Author Jennifer Probst

Welcome to steamy Sleepy Hollow, where lightning strikes, the temperatures are HOT, and the erotic sparks fly!

You wouldn't think three sultry succubi sisters, two sexy fire-demons, a reluctant witch and a couple of mega hunky mortals would need hook-ups courtesy of Madame Eve's ultra-exclusive 1Night Stand agency…but hey, the dating scene can be rough, even if you've got extraordinary paranormal powers and live in a mystical village populated by supernaturals…where things tend to go bump in the night.

Taryn Kincaid's erotic 1Night Stand stories, LIGHTNING,THUNDER, FROST and HEAT WAVE are a little snarky, a lot smokin' and will melt your heart! And then BLIZZARD will set you aflame!

And here’s the Blurb and Excerpt from HEAT WAVE:
BLURB:
Sent into the human realm to retrieve prodigal princess, Zena Night, Bhyrne Raines is shocked and unprepared for his carnal reaction to the sexy succubus. In service to the succubus queen, the rugged enforcer must stifle the instant passion exploding within him. Fulfilling his royal duty doesn’t allow for quickie dalliances. His biological clock is ticking, and he begins to enter breedspawn, an intense and unstoppable frenzy of mating all fire-demon males must endure. But the more he wants to avoid Zena, the more he’s drawn to her.
Reluctant to give up her carefree life of partying among the mortals when the hot-as-sin Bhyrne comes to fetch her for the queen, Zena uses her succubus wiles to entice him, or at least delay the inevitable trip to the royal court. Once in the demon stronghold, hidden deep within the Catskill mountains, she learns the reason for the summons: she must choose a consort within two days.
Zena needs a mate. Bhyrne needs to mate. With time running out for both of them, they each turn to 1Night Stand. With time running out, can Madame Eve come to the rescue?
 EXCERPT:
Holy freeze gun, Batman. The words died before she managed to expose them to air. Her mouth snapped shut.
One of the Queen’s guards stood before her, huge and tall, nearly twice the size of most of the other males in the joint, a hella hunka supernatural male. Clearly not human, although Hugo Boss’d to his Adam’s apple in an apparent bid to fit in among the humans trolling for hot sex, illicit drugs, watered-down booze and loud music. Beneath the fabric of the unstructured designer suit, the toned muscles of a demonic warrior rolled like tidal waves. Even without the small lapel pin the uninformed might mistake for the The Rolling Stones’ logo, she’d recognize him for a captain of the guard. Maybe the Queen’s own Captain.
Hellfire and cotton candy. Trouble. T-R-O-U-B-L-E.
But, by the goddess, whattahottie! Despite her certainty that his presence in the club corridor boded ill for her, the force of her sudden hunger shook her.
Like lightning.
Thunder.
A desperate bolt out of the blue.
Instant connection to him on the paranormal plane, as if he’d wrapped her aura in gold chains and tugged her to him. But did that fast lane to heaven run one way or two?
A grim expression straightened the lines of what otherwise might have been a generous, sensuous mouth. A military buzz cut had weed-whacked hair the color of iron. And it didn’t stop there. Without doubt, metal fortified every single cell in the massive male’s body, pure titanium flowing in his veins. The stern planes and angles of a hard-edged, swoon-worthy face set grimly as cement. Though he lounged in the hallway like any Archie or Jughead waiting in line to discharge his rented beer in a urinal, he exuded authority, his carriage and bearing such that he made the others look like a pack of Twizzlers. Oh. Yeah. More than a mere guardsman, she guessed. An enforcer.
Ruh-roh.

Poll Time! What do you prefer? #shifters #PNR

Posted on 03:00 by Unknown

Hello everyone! It's great to be back. :)

Right now, I'm in between celebrating my kids' birthdays, getting ready to send them back to school, and preparing for a test at the hospital. Fun! Not.

Anyway, this month is shifter month at All Romance, and there have been so many events going on. My publisher, Decadent Publishing is giving away a Kindle Fire, too. If you get a chance, pop on over and enter to WIN!

One of the surveys Decadent conducted as part of the celebration was about the type of shifters people read about. There was a bit of a surprise for me in the results. And, I'm going to conduct my own here to see if they compare.

So, please tell me, what kinds of shifters do you read about? You can select more than one answer.

Possible answers: canines, felines, dragons, birds, bears, aquatic creatures, reptiles, small mammals, and so many others.

I look forward to your answers.

The Trilogy I've Been Waiting For

Posted on 21:32 by Unknown
I know you've been there with me. There's a book/series/trilogy releasing soon. You have it on preorder and have caught yourself attempting to order it over and over again in your excitement.

The first in Kim Knox's Agamemnon Frost trilogy released last week and I'm over the moon with joy.

First of all, look at these covers:

Incredible, right?

Agamemnon Frost and the House of Death released on the 19th of August. I got it at midnight and have read it half a dozen times since then. :D

Here is the blurb for book 1, Agamemnon Frost and the House of Death:

Book one of Agamemnon Frost

Liverpool, 1891

Decorated artilleryman Edgar Mason was forced to find new work when the British Empire replaced its foot soldiers with monstrous machines. Now he waits on the Liverpool elite as a personal servant. He has just one rule: he won't work for fashion-addled dandies.

Agamemnon Frost, however, is far from the foppish man-about-town he appears to be. He's working to protect the Earth from an alien invasion being planned by a face-changing creature known as Pandarus. And on the night he plans to confront the aliens, he enlists Mason to assist him.

For a man to love a man is a serious crime in Victorian England. But when Mason meets Frost, his heart thunders and his blood catches fire. And when Pandarus drags the two men into the torture cellars beneath his house of death to brainwash them, Mason's new passion may be all that stands between him and insanity.

The trilogy continues with Agamemnon Frost and the Hollow Ships.

26,000 words

At $1.99 per book, it's a fantastic steal. Go check it out. (It's $1.79 at the Carina Press website!)

It's available at all your favorite e-tail stores. :D

Carina Press | Amazon | Barnes and Noble | Kobo

Book 2, Agamemnon Frost and the Hollow Ships releases September 16th
Book 3, Agamemnon Frost and the Crown of Towers releases October 14th

The entire trilogy is available for order/preorder at Amazon.

Other books on my virtual shelves at the moment:
Lynn Viehl's Disenchanted and Co. book 1: Her Ladyship's Curse
Maggie Shayne's Gingerbread Man
Oxygen: A Science Fiction Romantic Suspense Space Adventure
Rebecca Dickson's The Definitive Guide to Writing on Your Terms, Using Your Own, Honest-to-God, Gut-Wrenching Voice

What new books have you put on your shelves this month? Any series you're looking forward to?
